Expeditious characters: the quick-start systemThere are times when you need a character now and don't have any time to waste. Whether you are initiating someone into your favourite roleplaying game, forgot your character sheet at home, want a fast replacement for a slain character, or just want a quick pick-up game of Midian, these four methods can help. Expeditious characters are those created and brought into play far quicker than those generated using the normal character creation guidelines. There are four flavours: Paris, Debbie, Kaylee, and Sara. Paris: These characters don't really use the Midian guidelines. Paris-style characters are just a few simple sentences that describe each one. These characters are more teasers than full characters, useful for giving someone a quick introduction to the game without overwhelming them with different rules. This is the freebie demo version of Midian, using a very simplified resolution. Debbie: These are full characters, ready-to-run. A Debbie-style character is simply a pregenerated one. Rather than pick up a pencil & dice, just thumb through the stack and pick "that one." This is a step up in complexity from Paris-style to the full Midian guidelines, but doesn't involve more brain-work than "she looks cool," or "I want one with a big-assed sword." Kaylee: Customisable yet almost completed, these characters are a cross between Debbie & Sara style characters. These characters have a few unspent skills, a handful of money for last-minute shopping, and the option of trading out Backgrounds & Traits. Sara: This method is a variant off of the standard character creation guidelines using package selection. You still get to customise your character, but at an accelerated rate of character generation. This is a modular plug-in system, so you can just take packages in the areas you want, and use the standard creation guidelines for the rest. |
