Archive 645ad70975b Ok decided to hurry this along so I can dole out exp and finish this part of the story. Druin the killians, dwarves and froshan meet you outside the tavern. In total you have a group of 37 including you. You head south down the mountain trail. Blah blah blah. Once down the mountain you see a small farming community and a tower. Froshan says, "Druin there is a necromancer who resides in that tower, he wants to see you I have forseen it." You head to the tower and knock on the door. The door is answered by a ghoul, an undead one at that. She lets you in and leaves the room. There is a fire burning in the fireplace and an elf standing in the library to the left. Ok Volgor post you whore. bf5bda480f 7540c6eea2"No new characters on this game!!!!B[b:7540c6eea2][i:7540c6eea2]Anyone interested in adding a character to this game don't yet. That is, you can call yourself Major Woody or General Protection Fault, but don't expect to be treated as having any authority without the requisite number of troops to back you up. These numbers are simply estimates. That is, a Major who looses a large number of troops, or one of his three Captains, doesn't automatically become demoted to Captain himself. The titles are rather unofficial, and aren't granted by any government military body. Other titles used by mercenaries--often quite different than official military titles--include: * Lieutenant, an assistant to the leader--of whatever rank, Captain or higher; these assistants may ammend their own rank with that of their superior, i.e. Lieutenant-Colonel, Lieutenant-General * Adjutant, similar to a Lieuteant, but primarily an administrative post * Liaison, an officer who advises a non-military leader, such as a Duke or powerful guildmaster (or guildmistress) * Quartermaster, this is typically a noncommissioned officer (NCO) who handles provisions for troops; when working for a non-military leader, this position is often filled by a syndic-mercenary who "requisitions" materiel when needed 38af5e2c10 90f26f18c3 I. We shall call upon the provisions of assistance under this treaty only under great duress. At no time shall we demand aid under this treaty for trivial tasks or untrying times. IV. The aid, support, and assistance shall be limited up to and not including personal danger and/or cataclysmic personal or financial distress. V. The aid, support, et al, shall be rendered with all due haste, as great as the nature of the dire conditions requiring such aid make such haste necessary. VI. When aid, support, et al, is requested and required under the provisions of this treaty--when met with conditions demanding assistance in times of great need--no recompense of aid, neither ennumerating, nor temporal measure, nor monetary cost, shall be demanded from the other party. VII. The provisions of this treaty, with all aid, and mutual nonagression shall be maintained by both parties until such time as it is mutually agreed upon by both aforementioned parties that this treaty will no longer be needed nor desired. At such time, this treaty--and all its containded conditions and provisions shall be rendered null and void. 9d9ccff314%Chapter One: The Tower-The Final Posty Volgor: "So come dwarf follow me we have much business to discuss. First let me formally introduce myself. I am Volgor. And who might you be? Froshan never did know your name." Druin: "Well met Volgor. My name is Druin Stromgeld, of the Stromgeld clan to the northeast of here." Druin: "This is a nice tower ya got here." Volgor: "Never heard of them. If you don't mind me asking why have you come here? The firp only told me he saw a dwarf, who could be a good leader one day and that he could use this tower." Volgor: "Why thank you, it has taken me some time and money to rebuild." Druin: "Well, I have set out on a quest to find me father's old mountain home. Upon reaching the town south of me homeland, I came upon yer friend Froshan. He said that I should travel to a tower south of the city, I decided to take his advice seeing as I was heading that direction anyway. As well as searching for me fathers home, I seek any adventure that might come me way." Volgor: "Do you know where your father's home was?" Druin: "So it was that I came to yer tower to see what I might find." Ceekay: As you are walking through the tower with Volgor you hear a storm brewing outside. Sounds like a heavy storm. Druin: "My father was young when he was driven from his home. Me father's only memory of where to look was around the mountain borders of the Heldannic Lands. Volgor: "Well Druin that is all fine and well, but I see you have amassed a decent band of men. I have to leave this tower and attend to some business. So I have a business proposition for you, if you want to hear it." Druin: "The road I have travelled has proved to be very interesting thus far. I would like to hear your proposition." Volgor: "Well come to my lab, we have to talk with someone else as well." Druin: "Very well" Volgor: You head up to the second floor of the tower and into the kitchen. You follow a long tunnel into the mountain till you come to a room with many contraptions and such in it. Druin: "Odd things you have sittin around here." Druin: "You a wizard of sorts?" Volgor: "Druin I would like you to meet Claxxon, he is a Syndic. He is the one responsible for helping me and will continue to help rebuild the tower under your supervision. Yes I am a wizard of sorts, I am a necromancer." Druin: "Hello Claxxon!" Claxxon: "Hello Druin." Druin: "So ye are overseeing the rebuilding of this tower?" Volgor: "Ok here is the deal, I must leave for Byzant, I have some dealings there to attend to. Druin, you and your men are more than welcome to stay in my tower. For the right price, Claxxon will help you rebuild it as he has done me. While I am gone, I still retain ownership of the tower. If and when you get it and the surrounding town built up and all debts to Claxxon are paid, I will relinquish power over this land to you." Volgor: "If for any reason we both pass on, or we cannot pay our debts to Claxxon then the land and lordship go to him. If that is ok with him." Druin: "Me and my men could use a place to stay, and rebuilding the tower would be my pleasure. I have many skills that will help make this tower a structure of great integrity." Druin: "Not to mention from here I can make inquiries as to the whereabouts of my father's homeland." Volgor: "We will let Claxxon ponder this for a moment before we make a decision." Druin: "Very well" Claxxon: I will accept stewarship of the lands in the death of both of the parties, except that does not alleviate the debt." Volgor: "Very well Claxxon from here on out, my only debt to you is what you lent me. Anything that Druin must borrow from here on out is his deal and I will leave exclusive lordship of the land to him upon my departure." Claxxon: "Done" Volgor: "And you Druin?" Druin: "I accept the terms of our agreement." Druin: "When will you be leaving Volgor?" Volgor: "Very well, I will draw up the contract before my departure. As for any contracts between you and Claxxon you will have to draw that up. I must go gather my zombies and prepare them to leave in a few days. I also need to gather my equipment together. Druin, Lady sveltan here will show you around the tower." You see an undead ghoul step from the shadows. "She will show you all the rooms of the tower as I get ready to go. As for any other questions, see me later tonight after dinner." Ceekay: Time passes and Lady Sveltan shows you around the tower. She does not speak, but has placards with names of the rooms on them. You go to dinner and Volgor is at the head of the main table. All the workers are seated around the other tables. He motions for you to sit. Ceekay: As you eat dinner you notice the storm outside picking up. Volgor: Dinner is over and the workers and other men head out. "So Druin do you have any other questions for me?" Druin: I sit there with an expression of deep thought on my face for few minutes as I ponder the intricacies of what has happened in the past few hours. Druin: "Froshan, he said he saw me, saw things about me. What do you know of his abilities?" Volgor: "He has a gift if you will. He knew I was here, he knew I needed to leave but did not want to leave my tower unguarded. So he sought me out and told me of his visions." Druin: "Intrigueing, you trust him?" Volgor: "Yes, something about his aura tells me he is here to help." Druin: "Ok then, that explains a lot for me, mainly it answers the reason for why you trust me with your tower. I am greatful for you kindness and will take good care of the tower. I will see to it, that the tower is reiforced and I will most likely build a wall around the town to protect the farmers." Volgor: "That is good to hear. But from here on out it is your tower. Granted you still answer to me if anything goes horribly wrong, but you may do with the tower and land as you please." Druin: "A great boon it is indeed that you give me." Druin: "I am indebted to you." Druin: "When and if I find my father's homeland, which i hope i will; you may have residence there and stay with my people whenever you wish." Druin: "I will make sure I repay you for your kindness." Volgor: "No, I needed to leave and now I can do so without worrying about my land. Thank you. But I must warn you, I think some hobgoblins may be looking for Lady Sveltan, they now she is here and will come to look for her here. She kille done of their tribe leaders and they were not happy about it. If anyone comes looking for me here, tell them I vacated and you are not sure where I went. Anyone that needs to know where I am will." Druin: "I understand" Druin: "I will do my best to keep this tower and the surrouding farmers safe. Thank you for the warning." Druin: "I'm afraid I must be getting some rest now, I am tired from my journey." Volgor: "I do understand, I will see you in the morning with the contracts in hand. I must leave after it is signed." Druin: "See you in the morning." Volgor: "Yes you will." D 7e1fb311f0 The syndics of the city have decided upon three (3) chosen for the positions on the Tribunal. I. The Honourable Ms. Oleann: she was originally one of the lower classes in what is now Vridtown. Through hard work, honest endeavours, and native Vridian intelligence, she has managed to become the most successful import/export business operators in Vridtown. She would provide awareness of both large business & the common peasantry to the Tribunal. Additionally she is a shrewed judge of character, & many find it quite impossible to lie to her; and indeed, few would want to; she is very friendly and outspoken. II. The Honourable Mr. Obsidrian: he is a recent immigrant to Vridtown, & is familiar with the customs of many different cultures & groups. As a noble, he is knolwdgeable of, & accustomed, to affairs of the nobility & upper class. As an Elf, his longevity has granted him wisdom and patience. He is widely known for his impartiality & fairness in judgement. He will not allow one's social standing in the community to affect his decisions--whether the most respected lord, or the most blackhearted fiend--only the facts of the case apply. III. The Honourable Mr. Freedman: another Human native Vridian, he is from a long line of legal advocates & syndics. His impressive memory & rapid recollection of the smallest details of legal matters make him a perfect choice to dispense the laws of Vridtown. His attention to the smallest details--and refusal to budge on matters of law & justice--will see through the legalistic jargon attempted by others of his former profession. As a master of languages, he can converse with any who appear in his court. 903a6b1539 86d25c33ab d5d54c4ced / f5fb0357de Imperialism The Emperor's Adjutant's official reply: Very well, Grand Magus Vrid Krege, with the proviso that the repair and refitting of the docks are your first priority, you have a 12 month extension on your cities taxes. Are the acreage & mules given, or do they remain property of the state? Is the tax burden onerous? Could I conquer the lands of my neighbor & claim his Barrony as my own? ( 7 d412ed1819 I cannot tell you much about me. Except my life before it happened. From an early age I was different then the rest of the children. I would try to play with the other gaijin children but for some reason they were scared of me. When I was 8 I set some of them on fire because they called me wierdo. Between the kids picking on me and my dad beating me because he was so religious I was one fucked up kid. When I hit 18 I decided to go learn to be a syndic. I figured if noone liked me I would make them like me. My teacher was a syndic troll named Claxxon. He was a very good syndic then, I hear he is still in business so I am sure he is very powerful now. Once I was done with Claxxon, I tried it out on my own. It worked for me but not very well. After a few months it was not working at all so I went to try to live in the woods. That is when "IT" happened. I spent 2 years in those woods learning things and doing things. Now I am a better person for it. I decided to help further my life by joining the military. I was 23 when I went in. After I joined a marines recruiter came to me and told me I had what it would take to be an excellent marine. So I signed up with the marines. Now I must stop my story, for if I tell you more I will have to kill you. 8 5d13bd4a47 In a sense no 9 9f53ae4fee Even if you use your own troops from your land, or hire mercenaries, this would still be considered a "peasant uprising." You could then expect military retribution against you. Additionally, any mercenaries that would accept such a contract would be the bottom of the barrel--you would most likely have to assemble them yourself rather than hire a company. The fast-track into nobility is via knighthood. If you squire yourself prior to becoming a knight, and since you are already a land-owner, you would then possess the necessary status in polite society to petition yourself before the local Viscount (if there is any) to become a Baronet. Rather than assault your neighbor, the Baron, you could instead seek to become a knight through him. A Baron has the authourity to beknight someone. Once you become a Baronet, you need only develop courtly graces in the eyes of the local Count to become the peer of your neighbor, the Baron. That same degree of social status is all that is required to become a Viscount (petition yourself before the Marquis). In this manner you may simply [i:9f53ae4fee]annex[/i:9f53ae4fee] your neighbor's lands as part of your own--your lands will then encompass his as well as the other nearby Baronies. : 5aaeaf3e2e l < 29cdc6e0b6 G d9e0ec6918 > 58fc5310a5 1074172ce0 !The guards seem content with your answers and alibi. (Druin has no idea what an elementalist is) Whatever the reason, lets hope they won't be comin here. Please go talk with the people, find out whats left of the town, see we might go back and find anything thats salvageable. Oh have a few of your men go around and talk to the farmers, find out what kind of crops they grow here, and find out whether or not we can actually feed one hundred and twenty more mouths. As for the refugees tell them that I will my best to help them out and tell them to wait outside for a little while, I will speak with them shortly." There are a hunnerd peoples at me doorstep, refugees from the town to the north. Apparently the town has been destroyed and the survivors are seekin shelter here. For now the only thing I see fit to do for them is maybe purchase some canvas/cloth and supplies to make tents so the people can have a temporary home while I try to build 'em a new one. I'd like to know what yer opinion on the matter is. Also, I forgot to ask Volgor some questions before he left, so I thought I might ask you. What kind of natural resources do i have to work with, besides stone? Also where is the nearest city from here? and can i get supplies in that city? what kind of supplies do they have? How far do i have to travel to buy lumber? If these people decide to stay here and work for me I will try and provide for them. I may need some assistance. Perhaps we can work out a deal." I am sure that my niece will assist all that she can to bring in the killer. If all else fails I will find them myself. Once I am there I will throw a celebration for the citizens, for helping stop the fires. I will also do some questioning as to the death of the arsonist. If all seems just and fair at that point, then I will make sure they are honored for their bravery. Most is not usually how it seems. That is why my guild is there. (breathe... breathe) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA[/i:e5388390a5] e40265e322 1Baen Shee, you caught me reviewing old posts on a good night. Not really, everything seems a \ 0ba8beecab#Insane devices at insane prices!!!![ I've been working hard on all sorts of devices, not the least of which are my customized crossbow bolts. I've worked out a really interesting one using a vial of magnesium and water, split by a small divider. Upon impact, the vial breaks, the magnesium and water mix, and an intensely bright, hot flash occurs. I believe this would be useful both as a blinding flash, and a trigger for greater effect. Chemical burns can be quite nasty. Also, I've improved the yield on my explosive bolts. I have impact bolts that explode on contact, and also wet bolts, which deliver a spray of whatever solution i dream up directly to the target. I've been working with a fast-repeating crossbow concept so that two or three bolts can be delivered to the target with a single pull. Eddy's helped me a lot with this one, his rotating barrel crossbow is ideal for this concept. A single burst can blind, coat, and immolate a target, or so the tests have shown. We'll see how it works in the field. I've been working on something special for K'vurd as well <lucky boy>. As the draw seems to be the most precipitous obstacle, i've been working with alloys that are quite resistant to breakage. A spring made of one of these alloys could withstand even a troll's might. A single draw could power a dozen bolts to their destinations. I'll have to do a little more experimentation with this concept before it's ready for the battlefield. I've questioned Eddy about the practicality of creating a wagon-sized steam engine and he seems enthusiastic. Imagine, a machine the size of a wagon, horseless, but with the power to knock down a castle wall. It is the wave of the future, I've seen it in the guts of several small animals. We've been working on the NOH series, really trying to work the bugs out and give these poor little automata a fighting chance in the hazardous world of adventure. I'm surprised Eddy didn't explore this stuff too much, as it seems he's always the one to come up with the easiest method of detonation for any piece of technomancy I bring before him. I can hardly see him turning down a chance to replicate himself with spinning razor blades for hands and's projectile naptha sprayers for eyes; it seems right up his alley. We've had temporary setbacks attempting to create remote access and sensory display for these buggers, and they really aren't smart enough to form a truly useful member of a fully functioning band of adventurers yet. I see limitless potential for their use as combat support, however, as they are nearly tireless and can easily be programmed with a kill-or-be-killed attitude. The real trick is target recognition. As their displays are quite limited, we must determine some method for them to distinguish friend from foe. Perhaps some sort of pre-battle spray, applied to friends before hostility is anticipated. Or some sort of reflective tag, easily recognizable by NOH's optic sensors. I've also been trying to expand on NOH's ability to recognize his surroundings. Though Eddy's done a lot of work with the stereoscopic display, i don't think he's taken the time to explore some of the more esoteric senses we exercise. We'll see how a simple gas-intake vent and some tactile response sensors <thousands of pins under a thin coat of rubber to simulate touch> bog him down. I think the idea here is less a simulation of sentience than an improvement on it. We'll build NOH bigger, better, faster than before. That brings up a subject i've been attempting to collate. I've taken it upon myself to visit the local university and see about discovering the in's and out's of physiology. The anatomy textbook is thin, but i think a little supplemental research can be provided. It seems to me that we would have better luck if we didn't have to simulate some sensors, we could merely, well, let's say 'borrow' them from an organism and, given the proper interfaces, install them. I will need to study this very carefully if i'm to make a go of it. I don't think I'll even tell Eddy until I have a working prototype. Though I realize our understanding of medical science is still primitive <we're much better at disassembling bodies than reassembling them> I've sought the advice of the more scientific healers in the city and begged their knowledge on many subjects in the past month. Wisdom of bodily mechanisms will greatly assist me in future ventures down this path. Agon and I have had some rather profitable dealings recently. My knowledge of engineering has been indispensible in our recent mining forays. Not only have Eddy and I been able to improve on many mining techniques currently used, but we've actually had a great deal of success in automating the mining process. It only makes sense considering how much more suitable a machine is for jobs like mining. A machine doesn't complain if it runs out of air or light, and it will dig until it breaks. Of course, deaf-mutes don't complain about that stuff either, but they seem to have a bit shorter useful lifespan. Using the profits from our mining escapade, I've been able to set up a small workshop of my own. I know it's nothing like Eddy's sanitarium, but that's mostly the point: not only am I unsure as to exactly how Eddy would react to my recent work, but I also need a bit of asylum in which to get serious thinking done. It seems like something is always either exploding around me or poking me in the buttocks at Eddy's. I've tried to equip my workshop with a cross-section of multi-disciplinary tools that would be as suited for surgery as they are for construction. This will give me a place to test out some of the theories i've been working on, namely the reproduction of muscle memory and tissue regeneration on necrotic flesh. It seems morbid, but the machines we build are in so many ways inferior to the machines we are, i merely wish to take advantage of the similarities and overcome the differences to create the most advanced life form possible. My studies of the Hephaestus device continue to amaze me. What an extraordinary piece of technomancy this will become if we can manage to reassemble it. I'm rather glad that Agon has decided to give us a sabbatical during which we can research our fields of study. I'm not really built for adventuring, as despite my efforts i am still too weak to effectively wield the more barbaric of our weapons. Though i should believe myself above this, I've witnessed firsthand how useful it is to be able to handle a sword in close quarters. I'm seeking some instruction on the art of swordplay, as I have this feeling as if I might be in a situation someday in which that knowledge will come in handy. Call me a pessimist, but I rather believe my days of crawling around in caves and invading the ancestral homes of monsters are far from over. ] 3e496661aa ^ f7c08ba5fa You're killing me, Leander. This is great stuff. I cannot wait to see some of these ideas come to fruition. _ 880595c78d WolfbloodedI would indeed like to embrace that part of my Heldannic heritage. The defensive skills you mentioned would be most helpful. Up until now, I have been relying on stout armour & quickness to keep me whole. In addition to the Florentine style, I have been trained by the Impaler herself in her particular fighting style. I am also quite good with battlefield strategy, if I do say so myself. ` 1e92ad5041 Sounds good Black Guard, This sounds good to me. I will gladly try to do this for you. Just do realize that to do so, I must infect you. You see it spreads like a disease I must bite you or cut us both and make sure there is blood, slavia, or other bodily fluid transfusion. I will let you pick the method. Though I do ask that we trade skills first before I do this. For afterwards I will want to not hang around to much for your bouts with the "madness." Yes I have heard of the Impaler and along with Florentine style, I wouldn't mind having some of the other skills as well. But we will need to talk in person.'
