StuntsI want to introduce a new concept into Midian: stunts. Okay, it's not really new, but it's more of a way to codify things. Stunts are when you do one particular aspect of a skill very well, especially outside the bounds of normal use. Think of stunts as a one-skill combo, or a separate skill specialisation. Like combos, stunts don't really require a great deal of study time, just a lot of practice to get right. Stunts don't typically require skill rolls, or really even modify an existing roll. They are just cool things that you are good at doing. A stunt can be something like using telekinesis to make your dagger hover over your palm before you throw it. Any telekinetic can do this, but you don't have to make a TK roll beforehand (or use up a separate action); it is just a visually neat thing that makes your throwing of the dagger more interesting. Actually, telekinesis lends itself to a whole bunch of stunts. Some of the skills we have in the pipe--such as Call Weapon and Recover Weapon--are forms of telekinetic stunts (even if these two don't actually require the Telekinesis skill). Another stunt is Conflagration Conflation. This is using Pyrokinesis to make an existing blaze flare up and burn itself out in one burst. It is fighting fire with fire. (It was discussing this with Kinslayer that led to this post.) Yet another example would be to use a halberd for polevaulting, normally a crappy tool for the job. |
